ST. PAUL – Members of the public and motorists are asked to be vigilant and exercise caution on May 7 as the 42nd Annual RCMP Challenge Cup Relay Race will take place in St. Paul.

Students from junior and senior high schools will start the relay west of St. Brides, continuing east along Highway 29 and into St. Paul. The race is expected to begin shortly after 10 a.m., and to end around 12:30 p.m.

If the public would like to watch the event, they can do so at the finish line at the St. Paul Recreation Centre.

“We ask that the motoring public remain vigilant and exercise caution if they are planning travel that will include this route as runners will be present alongside the south shoulder of Highway 29,” said Sgt. Robert Burgess in a May 6 statement.

“St. Paul RCMP will be present throughout the event alongside our partners from other public safety agencies to monitor traffic and ensure the safety of all our participants,” he added.

Coaches, spectators, parents, or fans are prohibited from driving alongside runners. Only authorized vehicles and personnel are permitted to park south of the highway.

“All rules of the road must be obeyed, and all applicable legislation will remain in effect,” said Burgess.
